Timken® Plain Bearings

Spherical Plain Bearings

Spherical plain bearings can carry high-capacity radial and axial loads in a small envelope due to a large contact area and ideal for static

oscillatory applications found in the mining and construction industries.

Timken’s spherical plain bearings (SPBs), or bushings, are metal-on-metal bearings consisting of a spherically

ground inner ring housed in a mating outer ring without any rolling elements.  While all plain bearings are precision

ground and made from through-hardened steel, custom orders are available and can include special materials, clearances,

surface finishes or configurations to accommodate unique applications.

Size range: Available from 12.7 mm – 600 mm (0.500 in. to 23.622 in.) bore

Radial Spherical Plain Bearings with Lip Seals

This series of plain bearings is similar to the SF and FS types, but also includes lip seals that are retained in the outer ring and withstand high grease pressures during lubrication.

These lip seals assure full distribution of the lubricant to all bearing surfaces and protect against internal contamination.  While all of our plain bearings are precision ground and

made from through-hardened steel, custom orders are available and can include special materials, clearances, surface finishes or configurations to accommodate unique applications.

Available in inch and metric sizes from 12.7mm to 600mm (.5 in. to 23.622 in.) bore

Angular Contact Thrust Spherical Plain Bearings

Timken’s spherical plain bearings (SPBs), or bushings, are metal-on-metal bearings consisting of a spherically ground inner ring housed in a mating outer ring without any rolling elements.

While all plain bearings are precision ground and made from through-hardened steel, custom orders are available and can include special materials, clearances, surface finishes or

configurations to accommodate unique applications.  Our SBT and SBDT designs feature lubricating holes and grooves in the outer ring for easy relubrication through the housing.

Available in inch and metric sizes from 12.7 mm to 600 mm (.5 in. to 23.622 in.) bore

Design Attributes

Rings manufactured from hardened steel help deliver consistent, reliable performance.

Phosphate-treated rings coated with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) minimize friction of contacting surfaces.

Simplified housing and shaft designs reduce installation time.

Applications

A-frames, dump cylinders, front and rear struts, and steering cylinders for mining trucks

Equalizer track bars, lift and tilt cylinders, push blades, trunnion balls and ripper blades for bulldozers

Articulated joint upper and lower steering cylinders and boom and bucket cylinders for wheel loaders

Stick and bucket cylinders for hydraulic excavators

Timken® Spherical Roller Bearings

Misalignment. Contamination. High temperatures. Even extreme speeds or critical stresses can present extra challenges when managing high radial loads.

Timken® spherical roller bearings can handle it all, with innovations designed to extend bearing life and boost reliability.

Steel and Brass Cage

Timken® Spherical Roller Bearings with hardened steel cages deliver greater fatigue strength, increased wear-resistance and tougher protection

against shock and acceleration.

Timken® Spherical Roller Bearings with brass cages provide extra strength and durability in the most unrelenting conditions, including extreme shock and vibration,

high acceleration forces and minimal lubrication.

What is a Timken Bearing?

A Timken bearing is a type of bearings that uses tapered rollers to maintain its position while rotating. The rollers are usually made of steel and come in different sizes and shapes. Timken bearings are used in a variety of applications, such as automotive, aerospace, and industrial.

How does a Timken Bearing work?

Timken authorized distributors is a type of anti-friction bearing that uses tapered rollers to support and rotate a shaft. The design of the Timken Bearing allows for it to be used in a variety of applications, including automotive, aerospace, and industrial. The bearings are made up of an inner ring, outer ring, and a cage that contains the rollers. The design of the Timken Bearing allows for it to have a high load capacity and be resistant to shock loads.

A Timken Bearing is a type of rolling-element bearing that uses balls to maintain the separation between the moving parts of the bearing. The balls are what make the bearing roll, and they are kept in place by a set of inner and outer races. The inner race is usually mounted on a shaft, while the outer race is held in place by a housing or other support structure
The balls in a Timken Bearing are precision-grade and designed to minimize friction between the races and balls. This design allows for smooth, efficient operation of machinery in which the bearings are used. Timken Bearings are used in a variety of applications, including automotive, aerospace, and industrial.

The different types of Timken Bearings

There are several different types of Timken bearings, each designed for specific applications and environments. The most common types are ball bearings, roller bearings, and tapered roller bearings
Timken Ball Bearings: Ball bearings are the most common type of bearing and can be found in a wide variety of applications. They are designed to accommodate both radial and thrust loads and can be found in a wide variety of sizes
Timken Roller Bearings: Roller bearings are designed to accommodate higher loads than ball bearings and are typically used in industrial applications. They come in a variety of designs, including cylindrical, needle, and spherical
Timken Tapered Roller Bearings: Tapered roller bearings are designed to accommodate both radial and thrust loads and can support higher loads than either ball or roller bearings. They are often used in automotive applications such as wheels and axles.

How to install a Timken Bearing

Installing a Timken Bearing is easy and can be done in just a few steps. First, clean the area where the bearing will be installed. Next, apply a small amount of lubricant to the shaft. Then, align the bearing on the shaft and press it into place. Finally, secure the bearing in place with set screws or retaining rings.

Timken bearings are used in a variety of industrial applications ranging from agriculture to the aerospace industry. There are many different types of Timken bearings, each designed for a specific purpose. In order to ensure proper installation and function of a Timken bearing, it is important to follow the correct installation procedure
1. Clean the area where the bearing will be installed. This is to ensure that there is no dirt or debris that could potentially damage the bearing during installation
2. Lubricate the bearing using a high-quality lubricant designed for use with bearings. This will help to reduce friction and wear during operation
3. Install the bearing according to the manufacturer's instructions. This is generally done by pressing the bearing into place using a press or other similar tool
4. Check the alignment of the bearing once it has been installed. This is to ensure that it is properly seated and will not become misaligned during operation
5. Secure the bearing in place using retaining rings or other suitable fasteners. This will prevent the bearing from becoming dislodged during operation
